Urban Legends

Of all of the urban legends that I have read, there are a few of them that i find the most interesting. One is about a man who fell to his death out of a skyscraper. A lawyer from Toronto, Garry Hoy, was trying to prove the strength of windows on the 24th floor of the Dominion Bank Tower by ramming into them shoulder-first. He had done this many times before to impress young law students, but this time he crashed through the windows and fell 24 stories to his death. Another of the more interesting urban legends is the legend of "bloody mary." The myth is that if you go into a dark bathroom and shut the door and yell the words "bloody mary" into the mirror 13 times, a ghostly image will appear in the mirror and kill/harm you. This is far from a proven fact, but its far from completely false as well as there is multiple accounts of this actual event occuring to different people.

Media Violence

To me media violence is anything portrayed as violence in the mainstream media which includes TV, movies, news, radio, etc. Violence in the media can just be enjoyed or watched by adults in their right minds, but to those who are too young to understand that it’s fake, it can have devastating effects. Young impressionable kids and pre-teens, who don’t understand the true effects of the violence that is portrayed in the media, can be harmed for the rest of their lives. These kids see violence by characters in movies and TV, who usually ultimately have no dire consequences, and think that’s how life really works. I believe that there’s really nothing the media could do that would please all parties, I think the best solution would be to have the parents take care of their kids and not let them watch these kinds of violent programs. And if the parents don’t control what their children are watching, there’s no one to blame but themselves.
